Misotheism

/ˈmɪsoʊθiɪzəm/ noun

Definition

Hatred or strong dislike of God or gods, often arising from anger at perceived divine injustice or cruelty. Unlike atheism, misotheism doesn't deny God's existence but actively opposes or resents divine authority.

Etymology

From Greek 'misos' (hatred) and 'theos' (god). The concept has appeared throughout history in literature and philosophy, often as a response to suffering or perceived divine indifference to human pain.

Kelly Says

Misotheism produces some of literature's most powerful religious writing—from Job's accusations against God to Ivan Karamazov's rejection of a God who permits children's suffering, showing that sometimes the deepest faith includes wrestling with divine mystery!
