Definition
Devices that blend or combine things; people at social events who are good at meeting others; machines that stir ingredients together.
Etymology
From mix (Latin miscere, to mix) + -er (agent noun suffix meaning 'one that does'). The suffix -er creates a noun for something that performs the action of the verb.
Kelly Says
Social mixers at colleges deliberately put strangers in the same room because research shows that 'weak ties' (acquaintances, not close friends) are actually where people learn new information and find new opportunities.
