Molar

/ˈmoʊlər/ adjective, noun

Definition

Relating to grinding or crushing; the large teeth at the back of your mouth used for grinding food.

Etymology

From Latin 'molaris' (relating to grinding), from 'mola' (millstone, grinder), from 'molere' (to grind). Literally 'grinding tooth.' The chemistry term (molar mass) uses 'mole' which comes from the same root.

Kelly Says

Molar teeth are the heavyweights of your mouth—they can exert up to 200 pounds of pressure! Humans evolved stronger molars when we started cooking food, because cooked food is softer and we could evolve smaller, more efficient teeth compared to our ape ancestors.
