Molecule

/ˈmɑːlɪˌkjuːl/ noun

Definition

A molecule is the smallest unit of a substance that still has all the properties of that substance, made of two or more atoms joined together. Water molecules, for example, are tiny groups of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.

Etymology

From French “molécule,” from New Latin “molecula,” a diminutive of “moles,” meaning “mass” or “small mass.” It originally meant a very tiny particle of matter.

Kelly Says

Every breath you take contains molecules that have been part of countless other creatures and environments. You are constantly trading these little ‘masses’ of atoms with the world, an invisible chemical conversation.
