Naturalism

/ˈnætʃ(ə)rəˌlɪzəm/ noun

Definition

A belief or style that focuses on the natural world and real life, without adding supernatural or magical explanations. It is also an art and literature style that tries to show life very realistically, even its harsh parts.

Etymology

From 'natural' + '-ism', a suffix for belief systems and movements. It grew in use in the 19th century to describe realistic approaches in philosophy and the arts.

Kelly Says

Naturalism in philosophy says everything can be explained by nature and its laws—no miracles needed. In literature and art, it’s like turning on a bright, unforgiving light and showing life exactly as it is, not as we wish it to be.
