Nebuchadnezzar

/ˌnɛbjəkədˈnɛzər/ noun

Definition

A very large wine bottle holding about 20 standard bottles of wine; also the name of a famous Babylonian king.

Etymology

Named after King Nebuchadnezzar II of Babylon (605-562 BCE), a powerful ruler who conquered Jerusalem. The wine bottle size was named ironically or humorously after this mighty ruler.

Kelly Says

King Nebuchadnezzar is the only major historical ruler specifically mentioned in the Bible to have gone insane—and modern historians think he may have had mercury poisoning from cosmetics, so the 'mighty king' might have literally lost his mind to vanity.
