Nomad

/ˈnoʊmæd/ noun

Definition

A person who moves from place to place without a permanent home, traditionally following seasonal patterns for resources.

Etymology

From Greek nomas (genitive nomados) meaning 'roaming in search of pasture', from nemein 'to pasture' or 'to deal out'. Entered English via Latin nomadus in the 16th century, originally describing pastoral peoples of Central Asia and North Africa.

Kelly Says

The root 'nemein' also gives us 'nemesis' (one who deals out punishment) and 'economy' (household management), showing how ancient Greeks connected the concepts of distribution, movement, and resource management. Modern 'digital nomads' have revived this ancient lifestyle using technology.
