Ontological

/ˌɒntəˈlɒdʒɪkəl/ adjective

Definition

Relating to ontology, the branch of philosophy concerned with the nature of being, existence, and reality; dealing with questions about what exists and the categories of existence.

Etymology

From Greek 'on, ontos' (being, existing) plus 'logos' (study). The present participle 'on' of 'einai' (to be) gives us the root for studying the nature of being itself.

Kelly Says

While epistemology asks 'How do we know?', ontology asks the even more fundamental question 'What exists?' It's like philosophy's inventory check of reality itself!
