Overcast

/ˈoʊvərˌkæst/ adjective

Definition

Overcast describes the sky when it is completely covered with clouds, blocking most of the sunlight.

Etymology

From “over” and “cast,” originally meaning to cover or overshadow. By the 14th century it was used for skies covered with clouds.

Kelly Says

An overcast sky is nature’s giant diffuser, softening shadows and colors. Photographers secretly love this ‘gloomy’ weather because it makes faces and landscapes look surprisingly beautiful.
