Overhaul

/ˌoʊvərˈhɔːl/ verb

Definition

To overhaul something is to take it apart, examine it carefully, and repair or improve it completely.

Etymology

Probably from nautical use: “overhaul” meant pulling ropes over the ship’s rigging to straighten and adjust them, from “over” and “haul” (pull). The sense broadened to mean major repair or renovation.

Kelly Says

An overhaul is more than a quick fix; it’s like hitting reset and rebuilding from the inside out. Companies, engines, and even school systems all get overhauled when small tweaks aren’t enough anymore.
