Perspective

/pərˈspɛktɪv/ noun

Definition

A particular way of seeing or thinking about something. In art, it also means the technique of drawing objects so they appear to have depth and distance.

Etymology

From Latin “perspectiva” meaning “science of optics,” from “perspicere” (to look through). It originally focused on how we visually see depth and then broadened to mental viewpoints.

Kelly Says

Perspective in art and in thinking are deeply linked: both are about where you’re ‘standing’ when you look. Changing your perspective can make the same facts look completely different, just like stepping to the side changes a drawing’s appearance.
