Definition
Shops or parts of stores where medicines and drugs are prepared and sold, usually managed by a trained pharmacist.
Etymology
From Old French 'farmacie,' derived from Greek 'pharmakeia' (use of drugs), which came from 'pharmakon' (drug or poison). The word originally had ambiguous connotations since drugs could both heal and harm.
Kelly Says
Pharmacies exist at a fascinating intersection of retail and medicine—they're some of the few places where an unlicensed person can't just sell whatever they want, which is why pharmacists are essentially gatekeepers protecting public health every single day.
