Definition
Plural of philosophy; systems of thought concerning fundamental questions about existence, knowledge, values, and meaning.
Etymology
From Greek 'philosophia', literally meaning 'love of wisdom', composed of 'philos' (loving) and 'sophia' (wisdom). The term was coined by ancient Greek thinkers around the 6th century BCE.
Kelly Says
Philosophy literally means 'love of wisdom' rather than possession of wisdom, suggesting that true philosophers are eternal seekers rather than know-it-alls. Every major civilization has developed its own philosophical traditions, often independently arriving at remarkably similar questions about consciousness, morality, and the nature of reality.
