Definition
A close and harmonious relationship characterized by mutual understanding and trust. It refers to the ability to relate to others in a way that creates a climate of trust and understanding.
Etymology
From French 'rapport' meaning 'reference' or 'relationship', derived from 'rapporter' (to bring back, report). The word entered English in the 17th century, initially used in diplomatic contexts before expanding to general interpersonal relationships.
Kelly Says
Psychologists have identified that rapport can be established within the first few seconds of meeting someone through unconscious mirroring of body language, tone of voice, and breathing patterns. This phenomenon, called 'chameleon effect', happens automatically when people feel comfortable with each other and can be consciously developed to improve communication skills.
