Definition
An organized attempt to resist or overthrow a government, ruler, or authority. It can also mean strong, open resistance to any kind of control.
Etymology
From Old French *rebellion*, from Latin *rebellio* meaning ‘renewal of war’, from *re-* (again) + *bellum* (war). It originally described going back into a state of war after peace.
Kelly Says
Rebellion literally means ‘war again,’ which captures that feeling of ‘I’m done putting up with this.’ Teenagers are famously ‘rebellious’ because they’re testing the rules they grew up with.
