Definition
Rehearsal is the practice of a play, speech, performance, or event before the real one happens, so that people can improve and coordinate.
Etymology
From Middle English *rehears* (to repeat, say again), from Old French *rehercier* (to go over again), from *re-* (again) + *hercier* (to rake, harrow). It originally suggested going over something again like raking a field.
Kelly Says
A rehearsal is mental and physical raking—you go over the same ground until it’s smooth. That’s why good performers rehearse far more than the audience ever sees; the ‘magic’ is just invisible repetition.
