Reinventing

/ˌriːɪnˈvɛntɪŋ/ verb

Definition

Creating something anew or in a new way; redesigning or reimagining something that already exists.

Etymology

From Latin 're-' (again) and 'invenire' (to find/come upon), with '-ing' added to show ongoing action. The prefix 're-' combined with 'invent' became common in English to describe the process of creating fresh versions of existing things.

Kelly Says

The phrase 'reinventing yourself' became huge in the 1990s, but it's actually impossible—you can't completely erase who you were any more than a wheel can stop being round. What you really do is layer new skills and habits over your existing self.
