Remained

/rɪˈmeɪnd/ verb

Definition

Past tense of remain; stayed in the same place or condition, or continued to exist.

Etymology

From Old French 'remaindre', from Latin 'remanere' meaning 'to stay behind', composed of 're-' (back) and 'manere' (to stay). The word entered English in the 14th century.

Kelly Says

The word 'remain' shares its Latin root with 'mansion', 'permanent', and 'immanent' - all relating to the concept of staying or dwelling. Interestingly, a 'remainder' in mathematics uses the same root, referring to what 'stays behind' after division.
