Rephrase

/ˌriːˈfreɪz/ verb

Definition

to say or write something again using different words.

Etymology

From prefix 're-' (again) + 'phrase' (a group of words). 'Phrase' comes from Greek 'phrasis' (way of speaking). The prefix 're-' became productive in English for repeating actions.

Kelly Says

Rephrase is what happens when you realize someone didn't understand you—but studies show people often rephrase incorrectly, using even more jargon the second time instead of simpler words. It's a word that exposes how we think people misunderstand us.
