Righteous

/ˈraɪtʃəs/ adjective

Definition

morally right and good; acting or judging fairly and justly, or believing you are better than others in a self-righteous way.

Etymology

From Old English 'rihtwis' combining 'riht' (right) and 'wis' (way/manner). Used since the 1200s, it describes moral correctness or fair judgment.

Kelly Says

The word 'righteous' built from 'right' plus 'wise'—someone righteous wasn't just right, they were 'right-wise,' meaning they knew the right way to do things!
