Shouts

/ʃaʊts/ verb/noun

Definition

Loud, forceful vocal expressions or the act of speaking very loudly, often to get attention or express strong emotion.

Etymology

From Middle English 'shouten,' possibly from Old Norse 'skuta' meaning to shoot or project. Related to the idea of projecting the voice outward with force, similar to shooting an arrow.

Kelly Says

The human voice can reach up to 129 decibels when shouting - about as loud as a jet engine at takeoff. Interestingly, shouting actually changes the fundamental frequency and harmonics of your voice, which is why people often sound different when they're yelling versus speaking normally.
