Spot

/spɒt/ noun

Definition

A spot is a small round mark, stain, or area that looks different from what is around it. It can also mean a particular place, or a short amount of time in a schedule or show.

Etymology

From Middle English “spotte,” of uncertain origin, possibly from a Germanic root meaning “speck, blot.” It has long been used for small marks on surfaces or skin.

Kelly Says

“Spot” is amazingly flexible: you can have a spot on your shirt, a good picnic spot, a TV spot, or “on-the-spot” decisions. As a verb, “to spot” someone means to notice them—like your eyes making a tiny ‘mark’ on what you see.
