Stringing

/ˈstrɪŋɪŋ/ verb

Definition

Putting strings on something like a musical instrument or a racket, or threading things together on a string or cord.

Etymology

From Old English 'streng' (string). The word has been used since at least the 900s, originally referring to the cord-like material itself, then extending to the action of using strings.

Kelly Says

The tension in a guitar string vibrates at precise frequencies that create musical notes, but this wasn't scientifically understood until the 1600s when physicists realized that strings vibrate in predictable patterns—which is why the same string can produce different pitches when pressed at different points.
