Subscribed

/səbˈskraɪbd/ verb

Definition

Agreed to receive something regularly, usually by paying a fee, like a magazine or streaming service.

Etymology

From Latin 'subscribere' (to write under), from sub- (under) + scribere (to write). Originally meant signing your name at the bottom of a document to agree to it.

Kelly Says

The metaphor of 'writing under' something to agree has survived 2,000 years — it's why we still use 'signature' and 'subscription,' even though most people now click 'agree' instead of writing anything.
