Theism

/ˈθiˌɪzəm/ noun

Definition

The belief in the existence of one or more gods who are actively involved in the universe and human affairs. Unlike deism, theism maintains that divine beings continue to interact with their creation.

Etymology

From Greek 'theos' (god) + '-ism' (doctrine). The term was first used in the 17th century to distinguish belief in active divine intervention from the more distant God of deism.

Kelly Says

Theism is the theological umbrella that covers most world religions, from Christianity's personal God to Hinduism's active deities! It's what separates 'living' religions with prayer and divine intervention from philosophical concepts of distant cosmic forces.
