Definition
A therapist is a trained professional who helps people deal with mental, emotional, or physical problems, often through talking, exercises, or specialized treatments. Types include psychologists, physical therapists, and speech therapists.
Etymology
From Modern Latin *therapeuta*, from Greek *therapeutēs* 'attendant, one who treats', from *therapeuein* 'to attend, to treat medically'. The focus is on caring service.
Kelly Says
A therapist’s main tool is often not advice, but skilled listening and guided practice. The word’s roots in 'attending' and 'serving' show that good therapy is less about fixing you and more about partnering with you.
