Thrusts

/θrʌsts/ verb

Definition

Pushes something forward forcefully with a sudden movement, or a forceful push itself (as a noun).

Etymology

From Old Norse 'þrysta' (to push or press), which came into English around 1200. Originally described physical pushing but expanded to include aggressive forward movement in general.

Kelly Says

Sword fighting textbooks use 'thrust' to describe one of the most efficient attacks because physics favors the pointy end—you can generate force over a longer distance than a swing, which is why fencers get all dramatic with their lunging thrusts.
