Tilted

/ˈtɪl.tɪd/ adjective

Definition

Positioned at an angle rather than straight up, horizontally, or vertically. Can describe physical inclination or metaphorically suggest bias or unfair advantage.

Etymology

From Middle English 'tilten' meaning 'to fall over, overturn,' possibly from Old English 'tealt' meaning 'unsteady.' Originally described jousting action of charging with lance, later generalized to any angled position. Gaming slang 'tilted' (angry, off-balance) emerged from poker.

Kelly Says

In poker and gaming, 'tilted' describes emotional frustration leading to poor decisions - a metaphor so perfect that it's spread to describe any situation where anger clouds judgment. The Leaning Tower of Pisa tilts at 3.97 degrees, proving that sometimes being 'tilted' becomes your greatest attraction.
