Time

/taɪm/ noun

Definition

The continuous passing of moments in which events happen, measured in seconds, minutes, hours, and so on. It can also mean a particular moment or period, or how long something lasts.

Etymology

From Old English 'tīma' meaning 'limited space of time, season, lifetime.' It is related to Old Norse 'tími' and German 'Zeit.' The root idea is a stretch or portion of existence, which later developed into the abstract concept we measure with clocks.

Kelly Says

We talk about 'saving time' and 'spending time' as if it were money, even though you can’t store or touch it. That metaphor is so strong it shapes our stress and priorities. The word 'time' hides a huge cultural decision: to treat moments like a resource you can manage or waste.
