Timing

/ˈtaɪmɪŋ/ noun

Definition

The choice, judgment, or control of when something should be done to achieve the best effect. It can also refer to the recorded time taken by a process or activity.

Etymology

From Middle English time + -ing suffix. The word 'time' derives from Old English tīma meaning 'limited space of time, period, season.' The gerund form developed in the 14th century to describe the action of measuring or coordinating temporal events.

Kelly Says

Timing is everything in comedy, music, and life itself - it's the invisible conductor that orchestrates success or failure. Interestingly, our perception of good timing often relies on pattern recognition and anticipation, which is why comedians practice their pauses as meticulously as their punchlines.
