Tinted

/ˈtɪntɪd/ adjective

Definition

Having a slight trace of a particular color mixed with another; lightly colored or shaded.

Etymology

From Latin 'tinctus', past participle of 'tingere' meaning 'to dye or color'. The word entered English in the 17th century through artistic and technical terminology.

Kelly Says

Tinted glass was first developed for carriages in the 18th century to protect aristocrats from sun glare and prying eyes. Today's car window tinting continues this dual purpose of privacy and protection, though with much more precise optical engineering.
