Transmitters

/trænsˈmɪtərz/ noun

Definition

Devices or organisms that send signals, data, or substances from one location to another. In technology, these are electronic devices that broadcast radio waves, television signals, or other forms of electromagnetic radiation.

Etymology

From Latin 'transmittere' meaning 'to send across,' composed of 'trans-' (across) + 'mittere' (to send). The term evolved in the 19th century with the development of telegraph and radio technology.

Kelly Says

The first radio transmitter was built by Guglielmo Marconi in 1895, but interestingly, biological transmitters like fireflies and electric fish have been 'broadcasting' signals for millions of years! Modern WiFi transmitters use the same basic principles as those early radio pioneers, just at much higher frequencies.
