Transmutation

/ˌtrænsmjuˈteɪʃən/ noun

Definition

The action of changing or the state of being changed into another form, nature, or substance; transformation of one element into another.

Etymology

From Latin transmutare, combining trans- (across, beyond) and mutare (to change). Originally an alchemical term describing the supposed conversion of base metals into gold, it later expanded to mean any fundamental change in nature.

Kelly Says

Transmutation is like mutation but 'trans' - it goes beyond regular mutation to completely change the essential nature of something, like alchemists dreaming of transmuting lead into gold!
