Travelers

/ˈtrævələrz/ noun

Definition

People who go from one place to another, especially for long journeys or to explore new locations.

Etymology

From Old French 'travailler' (to work), which became 'travel' in English. The word originally meant hard work or suffering before it was applied to the effort of journeying.

Kelly Says

Medieval travelers called themselves 'vagabonds' or 'pilgrims,' and if you didn't have a travel permit from the king, you could be arrested—freedom of movement is a surprisingly modern concept!
