Truck

/trʌk/ noun

Definition

A large motor vehicle used for carrying heavy goods from one place to another.

Etymology

From Latin *trochus* “iron hoop, wheel,” via French *troque* and English *truck* meaning “small wheel or pulley.” The vehicle sense developed in the 19th century from the idea of wheeled platforms for carrying loads.

Kelly Says

Before it meant a big road vehicle, a truck was basically “a wheel that carries stuff.” Modern semi‑trucks are like rolling warehouses, quietly making almost everything in stores appear there overnight.
