Truckload

/ˈtrʌkˌloʊd/ noun

Definition

The amount of cargo or goods that can fit in and be carried by a truck; a very large quantity of something.

Etymology

From 'truck' (a vehicle for hauling cargo) plus 'load' (cargo). The term emerged in the early 1900s as motor trucks became common transportation.

Kelly Says

A 'truckload' became such a common phrase for 'a lot' that we say 'a truckload of apologies' or 'a truckload of problems'—basically, when something is heavy or abundant, we compare it to a truck's capacity.
