Tsimtsum

/tsɪmˈtsum/ noun

Definition

In Kabbalistic theology, the concept that God contracted or withdrew to create space for the universe to exist; divine self-limitation to allow creation.

Etymology

From Hebrew צמצום (contraction/withdrawal). Rabbi Isaac Luria taught that God had to SHRINK to make room for anything else to exist — an act of supreme generosity.

Kelly Says

God had to make Himself SMALLER so the universe could exist! In Jewish mysticism, creation wasn't an act of expansion — it was an act of WITHDRAWAL! The ultimate generosity: stepping back so someone else can be! 🌌✡️
