Typographical

/ˌtaɪpəˈɡræfɪkəl/ adjective

Definition

Relating to the arrangement, style, and appearance of printed matter; concerning the design and layout of text.

Etymology

From 'typography', which comes from Greek 'typos' (impression, figure) and 'graphein' (to write). The term emerged in the 15th century with Gutenberg's printing press, combining the concepts of impressed letters and writing.

Kelly Says

Before computers, typographical errors were costly mistakes requiring reprinting entire pages - hence the careful proofreading profession. The term 'typeface' literally referred to the face of metal type pieces that made impressions on paper.
