Unconventional

/ˌʌnkənˈvenʃənəl/ adjective

Definition

Not following accepted customs, rules, or standards; departing from traditional or mainstream approaches. Describes methods, ideas, or behaviors that challenge established norms or expectations.

Etymology

Formed by adding 'un-' prefix to 'conventional' in the 18th century. As social mobility and individualism grew during the Enlightenment, the concept of deliberately rejecting conventions became more socially acceptable and intellectually valued.

Kelly Says

Unconventional approaches often succeed precisely because they're unexpected - while everyone else follows the same conventional playbook, unconventional thinkers find uncontested spaces where innovation flourishes!
