Definition
Velocity is the speed of something in a particular direction. In physics, it is different from speed because it includes both how fast and which way.
Etymology
From Latin 'velocitas', meaning 'swiftness', from 'velox' meaning 'quick'. It came into English through French and scientific Latin, gaining a more precise technical meaning.
