Visor

/ˈvaɪzər/ noun

Definition

A movable front piece of a helmet or cap that protects the face, or the brim of a cap that shades the eyes.

Etymology

From Old French visiere, from vis meaning face, ultimately from Latin visus meaning sight. Originally referred to the face-guard of medieval helmets.

Kelly Says

Medieval knights' visors were engineering marvels that had to balance protection with visibility and breathing. Modern car visors serve a similar protective function, showing how this ancient concept adapted to new technologies.
