Definition
In a way that is bright, clear, and easy to picture in your mind; with strong, intense detail.
Etymology
From vivid + -ly. Vivid comes from Latin vividus (lively, alive), from vivere (to live). The adverb form naturally adds -ly to modify verbs and adjectives.
Kelly Says
Vivid and vivarium (where we keep animals alive) and viable (able to live) all come from 'vivus' (alive)—when you vividly imagine something, you're making it alive in your mind.
