Wormholes

/ˈwɜrmhoʊlz/ noun

Definition

Theoretical tunnels through space-time that could connect distant points in the universe; or actual holes made by worms in soil or wood.

Etymology

Compound of 'worm' and 'hole.' The physics term was proposed by Einstein and Rosen in 1935 as a theoretical concept.

Kelly Says

Einstein's equations actually allow for wormholes mathematically, but we've never found one—they're one of physics' greatest unsolved mysteries and a favorite of science fiction!
