Zope

/zoʊp/ noun

Definition

An open-source web application server and content management framework written in Python.

Etymology

Originally an acronym for 'Z Object Publishing Environment', created by Digital Creations (later Zope Corporation) in the late 1990s. The 'Z' referred to their earlier product called Bobo.

Kelly Says

Zope was revolutionary in web development for making object-oriented programming accessible through web browsers - you could literally edit code and manage databases through web pages. Though less common now, it pioneered many concepts that modern web frameworks still use today.
