Definition
Relating to or denoting a philosophical view that denies the existence or reality of the world or cosmos.
Etymology
From Greek a- (not) plus kosmos (world, order, universe). Formed in the 19th century as a philosophical term to describe non-dualist or idealist metaphysical positions.
Kelly Says
Philosophers like Hegel were called acosmic because they believed the material world wasn't ultimately real—only mind or spirit was, which sounds wild but influenced how we think about reality versus perception today.
