Adject

/əˈdʒɛkt/ verb

Definition

To cast or throw aside; to reject or discard; an archaic or obsolete verb meaning to throw away.

Etymology

From Latin adjicere, from ad- (to) + jacere (to throw). English borrowed this verb but it fell out of common usage, surviving now mainly in historical texts and dictionaries of obsolete words.

Kelly Says

The word 'adjected' appears in older texts meaning 'thrown toward' or 'rejected,' but it lost the competition with simpler words like 'reject' and 'discard,' showing how languages constantly winnow out redundant terms.
