Definition
As a noun, it means a total formed by combining many separate items. As an adjective, it describes something formed from many parts. As a verb, it means to bring things together into a whole.
Etymology
From Latin *aggregatus* “brought together,” from *ad-* “to” and *gregare* “to collect into a flock,” from *grex* “flock, herd.” It entered English through scientific and legal language.
Kelly Says
‘Aggregate’ has a secret animal image inside it: a flock or herd gathered together. When websites ‘aggregate’ news or data, they’re basically herding scattered bits into one big cluster.
