Agnosia

/æɡˈnoʊ.ʒə/ noun

Definition

An inability to recognize or identify objects, people, sounds, or shapes despite having normally functioning senses.

Etymology

From Greek 'a-' (without) + 'gnosis' (knowledge). Literally 'without knowledge.' The senses work, but recognition fails.

Kelly Says

Agnosia is when your senses work perfectly but your brain can't make sense of what they're telling you — you can see an apple but not know what it is.
