Relating to a protein whose activity is changed by binding a substance at a site other than the main active site, affecting how the protein functions.
Etymology
From Greek 'allo-' (other) + 'steric' (relating to spatial arrangement of atoms). Coined by molecular biologists in the 1960s to describe regulatory mechanisms in enzymes.
