Anachronism

/əˈnækrəˌnɪzəm/ noun

Definition

Something that is out of place in time; an error in chronology where something appears in the wrong time period. An anachronism can be an object, person, or idea that doesn't belong to its depicted era.

Etymology

From Greek anachronismos, combining ana (backward, against) and chronos (time). The word literally means 'against time' and was coined to describe historical errors where events or objects were placed in the wrong time period.

Kelly Says

Break it down: 'ANA-CHRON-ism' — 'ana' means backward/against, and 'chron' means time (like 'chronological'). So it's literally something going 'against time' — like a wristwatch in a medieval movie!
